Education and Qualifications: ​

Ms. Garcia will join Ms. Ramirez in pre-school.  Ms. Garcia is well-qualified in child development and adolescent behavior and holds degrees in this area from Imperial Valley College and Union Institute and University.  We are very happy that she has agreed to join our St. Mary’s family and to work with our children in pre-school.

Education and Qualifications: ​

Ms. Fletes joins our Pre-School staff and will also help out with yard duty. Ms. Fletes has degree in Liberal Studies from San Diego State University and has qualifications in child development. Ms. Fletes has worked from some years at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Calexico but, now comes to us in El Centro. She is a parishioner of St. Mary’s, El Centro and we are happy to welcome her to our St. Mary’s family.

ADRIENNE NEWMAN

KINDERGARTEN

 

Education and Qualifications: 

Ms. Newman will be remaining with us and will be returning to teach Kindergarten. Ms. Newman came to us a few years ago from St. Gregory the Great School in San Diego.  She was a founding member of the school and taught the kindergarten class.  She is a graduate of CSU San Marcos and has her teaching credential.  We are grateful to have Ms. Newman here at our school and our community.

LISA AREVALO

Education and Qualifications: 

Ms. Arevalo will be taking responsibility for our 1st Grade class.  Ms. Arevalo holds a BA in Liberal Studies from San Diego State University.  She is presently completing her MA in multiple subject teaching. She has worked in the Imperial Valley School district for the past few years.  She has also taught ESL courses. Ms. Arevalo is also a former student of St. Mary’s. We are very glad to welcome her to our Faculty and back to her old school.

Education and Qualifications: 

Ms. Calles is our 2nd Grade teacher. She is a graduate of San Diego State University and holds a degree in Early Childhood Education.  She spent part of her studies abroad in England sharing in an excellent education program at Keele University.  She is also qualified in special education and in studies related to autism.

Education and Qualifications: 

Mr. Rodriguez will join us and take responsibility for Fourth Grade. He holds a Master’s Degree from Methodist Theological School in Ohio, as well as furthering his education at the Pontifical College Josephinum, in Columbus, Ohio, and at California State University, Monterey Bay.  He holds many awards and prizes from the educational institutions with which he has been involved and has a particular interest in Catholic Education.  We are happy to welcome him to St. Mary’s.

GONZALO ESTRADA

FIFTH GRADE


Education and Qualifications: ​

Mr. Estrada will be joining our Faculty this year, and will take responsibility for our Fifth Grade class. Mr. Estrada studied for a BA in Liberal studies at Fresno State University. He holds a multiple subject credential and has a wide experience of education in the Imperial Valley.  He last taught at Imagine School and held many positions of responsibility there.  We wish him a warm welcome.

MARCIA VALENZUELA

SIXTH GRADE


Education and Qualifications: 

Mrs. Valenzuela holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish with a minor in history from SDSU.  She has a Master’s degree in Teaching and Learning.  She holds a single subject California credential and has a specialization in English Language Learners.  Mrs. Valenzuela also has extensive teaching experience gained in the Imperial Valley.

MARCOS PACHECO

SEVENTH GRADE ENGLISH AND LANGUAGE ARTS


Education and Qualifications: 

Comes to us from Sacred Heart School, Brawley.  Those who attend Our Lady of Guadalupe in Calexico will recognize him from helping out at services there.  He studied Liberal Studies at San Diego State University. Both of his parents are teachers and other members of his family are also involved in education.  Mr. Pacheco will be responsible for 7th Grade and will teach English and Language Arts.

Ms. Davalos will be responsible for our Learning Center and for teaching computing.  Ms. Davalos did her undergraduate work at San Diego State University where she gained a degree in Liberal Studies. She holds a Master of Education Degree and a preliminary multiple subject credential.  We are delighted to welcome her as a new member of our Faculty.

DOCTOR RICHARD COLUNGA, PhD

MUSIC INSTRUCTOR FOR FOURTH - EIGHTH


Education and Qualifications: 

Dr. Colunga currently teaches music at Imperial Valley College.  He will be teaching the higher grades music and is also happy to teach piano to those who are interested. Dr. Colunga, along with his wife Christine, a senior educational administrator in the Calexico Elementary School District, are parishioners of St. Mary’s Parish.

FRANCISCO CABRERA

Education and Qualifications: 

Mr. Cabrera is well-known to many of you as a former teacher at St. Mary’s and Director of our choir.  Mr. Cabrera is a music minister in the parishes of St. Mary, and Our Lady of Guadalupe, El Centro and is the Director of Religious Education for El Centro Catholic.

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND COACH

Education and Qualifications: 

Mr. Vega is a former student of St. Mary’s. We are delighted to welcome him back as our Coach and Athletic Director.  Omar is a star football player and basketball player and excelled at Vincent Memorial High School.

ANDRES RAMIREZ

P.E. for KINDER - 8TH GRADE


Education and Qualifications: ​

Mr. Ramirez is a star basketball player and a former student of St Mary’s School and Vincent Memorial High School. Andres was also a student at Vincent Memorial High School where he played a large part in their athletics program. We are very happy to welcome him back to his old school.
